Soil Steaming

We are proud to announce that we have begun steaming our soil with the Sioux SF11D. By getting the soil to 160F we are able to eliminate a variety of plant pests as well as coconut rhinoceros beetles (CRB) and larvae, all while eliminating the use of pesticides. With CRB here to stay, we believe that steaming will become the new standard in the landscaping industry.

What’s New

Panel Traps

We now distribute Alpha Scents Inc. monitoring panel traps! Panel traps must be purchased with a pheromone lure.

Traps are excellent because they work day and night to monitor the surrounding area. Setting and maintaining traps is an essential component of integrated pest management.
Palm Protective Netting

We now sell netting for your palm! This method, tried and tested by the University of Guam, will protect your palms from any critters that want to feed on it. Netting is great as it avoids the use of pesticides and functions around the clock.
LFA Free Nursery

As of February 2025 we are LFA free! Here’s what we are doing to keep LFA out:
• Working closely with HDOA and Oahu ant lab to monitor nursery as needed
• Self monitoring twice a year
• Testing, isolation, and treatment of any incoming plant material
• Steam treatment of potting soil

Trees

We offer a wide variety of ornamental trees and palms in 15, 25, and 95 gallon sizes. For an inventory and pricing please contact us.

Delivery

We deliver to the property line anywhere on Oahu. Trees must be selected by the customer prior to delivery. Please contact us for a quote or more information.

Shipping

For those of you on the outer islands, we are experienced at shipping refrigerated containers, and twenty or forty foot flat racks. Please contact us to coordinate a shipment.

About Us

Contemporary Landscaping was started in the early 1960’s by Rodney Fukui, a former University of Hawaii extension agent.

After his stroke in 1991 the business slowly transitioned away from landscaping and rentals. Eventually it became a nursery specialized in growing ornamental trees and palms. In 2009 the manager at the time, Alfred Burer, transitioned the company to an LLC. Since 2015 Mark Fukui, Rodney’s grandson, has been running the family business.
